| Notes | Set in sixteenth century Peru the Spaniards are looking for the lost city of gold, the legendary El Dorado. A large party has become bogged down in the Peruvian jungle and the leader decides to send out a smaller party under the leadership of Don Pedro de Ursua. But it is Don Lope de Aguirre (Kinski) who is the driving force. And his obsession takes them deeper into the jungle and facing more and more difficulties. While everyone around him can see how mad and hopeless is their journey Aguirre has become so obsessed with the search he has slipped into madness. It is the environment which he has challenged and which has beaten him. An incredibly impressive film which will impel you into this strange world. Kinski is superb.
