| Cast | Woody Harrelson Randy Quaid Vanessa Angel Bill Murray
| Notes | Two directors make too many cooks in this confusing comedy. In 1979 Harrelson wins the Iowa state bowling championship but then meets a sharp hustler who after a successful con abandons him. The aggrieved party put Harrelson's bowling hand in the bowling machine. We next see Harrelson living as a drunk with a hook instead of a hand. The hook is covered by a removable tacky rubber hand. Then he meets a potential champion who he intends to coach and who turns out to be Amish. At times the film is very funny like the directors' other film "Dumb and Dumber". But like that film it often goes astray and fails to exploit the comedy situation. Also like Jeff Daniels in that film, Woody Harrelson is not a sympathetic comedy character. The jokes about the prosthetic hand are in bad taste but the film's tone is such that isn't troublesome. Val Reese points out a scene which features a bearded Amish woman. See http://www.skinema.com
