| Notes | The scene is London of the late nineteenth century which has become a breeding ground or refuge for a mixed bag of political refugees. Among them is Verloc who makes a living spying for the Russians and doubling his money by passing the same information to the Metropolitan Police. He is also an agent provocateur. It is this latter skill he brings to play when a new Russian ambassador threatens to withdrawn his income if he doesn't show he's worth it. His action has a domino effect which causes problems for a number of people. The brother of Verloc's wife has learning difficulties (played by Christian Bale).
