| Notes | B/W This is the satirical opera based on Brecht's play which in turn is derived from John Gay's The Beggar's Opera (18th Century). Kurt Weill wrote the music and his wife Lotte Lenya plays Jenny. There are many versions but this is the one to see. Though it's a little strange to see Lotte Lenya who went on to be a big star in such a small role. You may be familiar with Bobby Daren's Mac the Knife based on the song Mackie Messer. At one point a troup of fake disabled beggars march across the 'stage'. They work for Mackie Messer.
