Title | Portrait of a Lady (1996) | Alternative/Original Title | | Disability | General Consumption | Country | USA/UK | Length | 144 | Genre | Period drama | Rating | 4 | Director | Jane Campion
| Cast | Nicole Kidman John Malkovitch Barbara Hershey Martin Donovan Mary-Louise Parker Shelley Winters
| Notes | Contrary to expectation I enjoyed this film. The critics weren't too keen. Kid is magnificent, Hershey and Parker are brilliant and the male actors aren't too bad. This is a woman's film, not as audience but as actors. An intelligent and independent woman who rejects wealth but acquires it through the intervention of Ralph is completely taken in by Malcovitch assisted by Hershey. Under the influence of the malignant, malevolent Malkovich Kidman's character reminds me of the Duchess of Malfi. Ralf Touchett has consumption in love with Kidman's lady but calls his love hopeless.
