| Notes | A 60 year old German cleaning woman, Emmi, meets a 40 year old Moroccan garage mechanic, Ali, who is a gastarbeiter (guest worker). They fall in love and get married. The result of this is enmity from all those around. Her family and work colleagues and the local grocer. Then they go on holiday and on returning attitudes have changed. Her family want her to baby-sit, neighbours want someone to carry furntiure and the grocer needs their custom. Not that this mean happiness. Emmi is nasty to a new colleague from Yugoslavia, Ali has an affair and all the time is slowly dying from a stomach ulcer. A long time since I've seen this and remember it as stark and rather bleak though powerful.
