| | Notes | Surprisingly well done and informative. It's about the first artificial heart transplant and the problems getting the go-ahead in the face of administrative caution. But the film is not series of over-the-top confrontations. Instead we're shown the slow, understated grind of pioneering work. We are clearly shown how the mechanical heart works and also the pressure on the surgeon to help a patient who will die without a transplant. Today some will find unpleasant the use of calves for experimentation and the surgery is realistic enough to make the faint hearted turn away. Good material for a discussion of the ethics involved.
