| Notes | A very odd retelling of the Cinderella story The film begins in England in 1637 where a woman is begging with her daughters on the streets. After stealing some herbs she flees ot Harlem, Holland. and finds shelter with a painter. The mother uses herbs to get a rich merchant to fall in love and marry with her. He has a beautiful daughter, Clara. He then loses everything in a tulip deal (you have to understand that during this period tulip bulbs were selling for astronomical prices). When mother and daughters are invited to ball the beautiful step-sister, Clara, is left behind. But a mysterious woman who approached the family earlier turns out to be the fairy godmother. Oddly she has vivid scars on her face. I must have missed the reason for this and it goes against the grain of only the baddies having scars.
