Title | Richard III (1995) | Alternative/Original Title | | Disability | Disfigurement | Country | UK | Length | 103 | Genre | Shakespeare | Rating | 4 | Director | Richard Loncraine
| Cast | Ian McKellen Annette Bening Kristin Scott Thomas Jim Broadbent Robert Downey Jr. Maggie Smith Nigel Hawthorne
| Notes | With such a wonderful cast including a couple of Americans this version of Shakespeare's hunchback king may reach a bigger audience. Set in 1930s England in which fascists have taken over we see the machinations of Richard and his insinuating evil as he plots to wrest the throne from his brother. Great atmosphere created with lots of modern blood and thunder so you might forget you're watching Shakespeare. The background may have changed but these are Shakespeare's words you're hearing. McKellen's performance brings understanding to the character of Richard. If you've ever taught Shakespeare to sixth formers you'll welcome this present plethora of Shakespeare inspired films.
