| Notes | B/W. After the Italian tragedy Francesca da Rimini Set in 18th Century Portugese South America. A Duke is entering into an arranged marriage with the much younger daughter of a political rival. But she doesn't know he is so old and has a distorted spine. However the Duke sends his younger, and good looking brother ahead of him and the two fall in love. A courtier spies on them, informs the Duke and he kills them both and then himself. But when the tragic ending didn't go down well with preview audiences Griffith re-shot it allowing the young couple to live though the disabled husband still dies.
