| Notes | B/W. Set in Czechoslovakia during WW2. A man, Kroner, is sent to be the 'Aryan comptroller' of a button shop run by an old Jewish woman who is deaf and doesn't even know there is a war. Her friends worried the Germans will take her away employ Kroner as a coworker which should protect her. But as the Nazis close in Kroner fearful of his own position is ready to shop her. He does change his mind but it's too late. Won Oscar as best foreign film.
