Title | Out of the Past (1947) | Alternative/Original Title | Build my gallows high | Disability | Deaf Speaking Impaired | Country | USA | Length | 97 | Genre | Drama | Rating | 4 | Director | Jacques Tourneur
| Cast | Robert Mitchum Jane Greer Kirk Douglas Rhonda Fleming Richard Webb Steve Brodie
| Notes | B/W. This is an enjoyable mystery in film noir style. A film with very good, sharp (Chandler style) dialogue included here because one of the characters is deaf and speaking impaired. He is a young man who works for Mitchum in his garage. He is able to lip read and communicates with Mitchum through sign language. However though other characters are alert to his condition he is simply there as a disabled person functioning perfectly well and not used as a plot device. From novel by Geoffrey Homes (Daniel Mainwaring) Build My Gallows High. Remade as "Against All Odds" in 1984 but I don't know if the deaf and speaking impaired character is included.
