| Notes | A satire on early German silent films of the ilk of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and shot in their style. This style includes titles explaining what's happening, grainy, scratchy film, and 'hand tinted' colour . The action takes place appropriately in a remote village in unspecified Alps where the population live in constant fear of avalanches. So much so they speak in whispers and their animals are silenced (imagine how). As happens in these rural backwaters a son lusts after his mother, a daughter after her father, and the father after his other daughter. There is much comedy in bad taste and modern style but this film will appeal more perhaps to film aficionados. Grotesquely an older brother is locked in an attic where he is covered in cobwebs. Here he has visits from the ghost of his blind father who tells him of dreadful things to come. But because this brother is speaking impaired and considered mad nobody he warns believes him.
