Title | Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) | Alternative/Original Title | | Disability | Cancer Alcoholism | Country | USA | Length | 108 | Genre | Drama | Rating | 4 | Director | Richard Brooks
| Cast | Paul Newman Elizabeth Taylor Burl Ives
| Notes | One character, Big Daddy Pollit, is dying of cancer though this film is not a study of this. His doctor, though, lies to him and his family saying his cancer is no longer malignant. (See 'Champions' for a realistic look at cancer treatment). The film is really about where his wealth goes after his death. There is also the topic of sexual identity (Newman's character's homosexuality, strongly subverted because of censorship). Newman doesn't give a hint of the homosexuality which was removed from the film version. A better actor might have created a subtle undercurrent. Newman's character besides being an alcoholic, he drinks so much throughout the film one imagines he'd be comatose, also wears a cast on his lower right leg. He broke his ankle while trying to jump hurdles when drunk. Newman talks about waiting for that "click". And actually says "I am an alcoholic".
