| Notes | B/W A lowly civil servant, Watanabe, discovers that he has terminal stomach cancer (gastric). His response is to quit his job which he has been in for 30 years. His wife dead, his son estranged and no friends he walks into a bar intent on drinking himself to death. He meets there a writer who takes him on a pub crawl. Later he sets his eye on a young woman from his office. This isn't fruitful but it does inspire him to do something for others. This something becomes a project to replace a cesspool with a playground for which a group of women have been campaigning. This film is about learning one is soon to die and coming to terms with that. Though in Watanbe's case he has been considered 'dead' for 30 years and is known to his co-workers as The Mummy. A classic exploration of one man's psyche.
