| Notes | For serious viewing few films will match this. Don't expect to be easily entertained but to open yourself to an experience. That experience is about dying and death itself, and in between love, hatred, pain and sex. With the restricted vision of a theatre and more dialogue than action this is still consummate film making. If you're familiar with Ingmar Bergen you'll have an idea what to expect though this film is perhaps more rigorously confined in scenes and characters than some of his others. There is also a harrowing scene when Ingrid Thulin mutilates herself. For intense, private viewing in a darkened room.
