| Notes | B/W, Silent Chico, (Farrell) works underground in the sewers of Paris. After dreaming and praying so long for a wife he meets Diane (Gaynor), a street waif, who is on the run from the police. Chico gives her refuge and they fall in love. But then Chico must go to fight in WWI. When Gaynor hears he has been killed she loses all faith in God. However Chico isn't dead and returns though badly injured and blind. The film received 3 Oscars including the first for best actress to Janet Gaynor. Re-made in 1937 with James Stewart and Simone Simon.
