| | Notes | The film consists of 4 distinct stories. The one which concerns us is Hoichi the Earless. Hoichi is blind and lives in a monastery. He also has a peerless voice and is summoned to sing an epic ballad of a battle to the ghosts who died in that battle. His fellow monks fear he will be in danger and they paint all over his body symbols of a holy mantra so the ghosts will not see him. But they miss his ears and these are ripped off.
