Title | Family Thing, A (1996) | Alternative/Original Title | | Disability | Blind Stuttering | Country | USA | Length | 109 | Genre | Drama | Rating | 2 | Director | Richard Pearce
| Cast | Robert Duvall James Earl Jones Michael Beach Irma P. Hall
| Notes | Duvall's character lives in Dixie country and discovers when his mother dies that his real mother was black. So he goes to Chicago where he has a brother who is a policeman and black. After the meeting there isn't really anywhere to go except Duvall's journey of self-discovery. But this isn't the Duvall we know and love. He even speaks differently. The whole premise of the film isn't upheld by either the script or the acting. It remains comfortable to watch but not interesting. Irma P. Hall plays his blind aunt with great presence though her character is typecast as being blind and wise. James Earl Jones is a stutterer and plays the brother as a stuttering.
