| Cast | Spencer Tracy Robert Ryan Anne Francis Dean Jagger Walter Brennan John Ericson Ernest Borgnine Lee Marvin
| Notes | Spencer Tracy's character has only one arm. But nothing inhibits him in his quest for justice. Tracy has come to a small western town to bring a medal to the Japanese father of a soldier who saved his life in Italy during WWII. He faces unremitting hostility from the locals and it is apparent something evil has happened to the Japanese, Komoko. A strong story, powerful melodrama, distinguished cast and superb photography make this a classic. It's old-fashioned stuff, weak characters find redemption, evil is conquered, wit and skill overcome disability. Yet it's quite clear that the strong but prejudiced are the real 'disabled'. An e-mail correspondent writes: "I disagree totally that Spencer Tracy has one arm in Bad Day at Black Rock. I am assuming paralysis. In truth we never know. The only hint is his going to the bathroom to bathe in the hotel. An amputee at that point would have taken off the limb."
