NotesB/W You don't need an excuse to see this. It's Betty Davis playing the sexually repressed, neurotic Charlotte Vale. Especially interesting when you know what an important role Miss Davis played during WWII at the Hollywood canteen for servicemen. But here she ain't getting it and is under the care of psychiatrist Claude Rains while falling in love with Paul Henreid (he who took Bergman from Bogie in Casablanca). Of course there are no in-depth sessions on the couch this is vintage soap. Yet an interesting look at psychiatry in the movies. From the novel by Olive Higgins Prouty
