NotesA car crash leaves a husband dead and his daughter injured. The film takes up the story 3 months later. The breadwinner dead mum has moved with her daughter into a trailer. This trailer just happens to be next to a riding academy. And, before you say it, there's an injured horse. He's called Ginger, after gingerbread, and he's out of control. Except to the little girl who is called Sunny. Sunny walks around with a crutch but because the director isn't paying too much attention she often gets away with not actually using it. Now the owner of the stables has just been offered $400 for this bad horse either for dog food or French cuisine. But Sunny offers $4 and gets the horse. By now you're getting the drift that this film is made on a budget. In no time Sunny is getting better and for the sixth time by my count (The Horse Whisperer, Palomino, Dark Horse, The Strawberry Roan, Wind Dancer) horses prove they're the best medicine. Mum also gets something, a new boyfriend. He's not the stable owner. You know it's not going to be him because he has long hair and a beard. It's her daughter's doctor. Of course it could have been the Vet. He's a nice because he's ready to waive his fee for mending the horse. But, no he's not that good because he's been paid on the side by the stable owner. So that $4 horse has cost him $2,400 and for that I think he deserves the mother. The daughter isn't really disabled she's what her mother calls "injured" and that allows a happy ending. Because in real life, if not in true stories disabled people generally don't get better.
