NotesThis film is NOT about learning difficulties. In fact quite the opposite. Travolta as George is out one night staring at the stars when he's hit by a shaft of light. From that point he has superhuman powers of learning and sensitivity to the earth's movements. He forecasts an earthquake. He learns foreign languages. He saves a boy's life with the knowledge he's got from text books. But you can't acquire a profession or trade from reading. Then the FBI gets interested in him. This isn't an entirely satisfactory film by any means but it might be worth comparing with Charly (1968). In that film (see above) Charly starts as a person with learning difficulties.
