NotesThis is a quite beautiful though slow moving film about a beekeeper in what appears at first to be a quite idyllic setting in a small town in Florida. Then we learn that his son is in prison for robbery. His son's wife while on drugs blabbed to the two men who were also involved in the robbery that her husband hid the money from the robbery. They who were not caught are after this money. The wife is now in a process of rehabilitation. It is the beekeeper who sorts out the family problems. This film is likely to appeal to those who like French films. Like many of them there is an undercurrent of danger which later comes into conflict with the almost pastoral setting. Fonda is superb as the beekeeper. He walks with a limp caused by a knee damaged in Vietnam. He also has a bad back and sleeps on the floor. The director is to be praised for having the courage to dwell on the characters and their relationships.
