NotesThe essence of this film isn't in a summary but its images. These images are bizarre, extreme and sometimes violent. Jodorowsky the director plays a beggar who is reborn as a Jesus like figure. He is guided by a dark robed guy (no name) who is forming an 'expedition' to learn the secrets of The Holy Mountain. If you havn't heard of this film or the director that is not surprising. The film hasn't been released in the U.S. even on video. While afficionados rave about Jodorowsky camparing him to David Lynch or Martin Scorcese it is likely most viewers will be turned off by the surrealistic extravaganza. Another beggar has no arms or legs (played by an actor who was born without them). A man takes out his glass eye and gives it to a girl. There is also a dwarf with no arms and more dwarves in a parade. My opinion is that Jodorowsky exploits such people for their perceived bizarreness and is not so different from the past exhibition of 'circus freaks'. While Todd Browning in "Freaks" both exploits and empathises with his cast I don't think there is the same ambiguity here. http://hotweird.com/jodorowsky/
