NotesSet in the sixties Dreyfuss is a Jewish private eye who used to be a Berkeley (University of California) radical. He gets the job of finding out who is trying to slur a liberal candidate for the Californian governorship. Dreyfuss plays the private eye as witty and laid-back. And in a scene with the printer of some scurrilous flyers he uses the printer's hearing impairment for a bit of witty banter. Perhaps because of Dreyfuss's approach to his character we don't really get involved in the increasingly complicated plot.
