NotesA deaf man witnesses a robbery in his father's hi-tech factory. The thieves steal a new cure for migraine. The deaf son can speak but chooses not to. He is assigned a bodyguard who is the head of electronic security at the factory and just happens to be an attractive woman who knows a little sign language. Her attitude is "I'd rather be doing my job than baby-sitting." And of course in the prelude to romance he is resentful of her presence. He has a drum kit in his room which he plays and explains he can feel the music. He's shown using his special phone to send messages. He explains to her that he became deaf after menigitis when he was a a few months old. This is a getting to know you session. She takes virtually no precautions to protect him on the first night. But when on the second night she goes round checking all the windows and loading a bullet in the chamber of her automatic you know that something will happen. In a surprisingly inept fashion she lets the baddies in and the two of them hightail it in a hail of bullets. And they flee to the deaf school where he used to teach. Interestingly his sign is interpreted except when he signs to her. We see a brief scene of teaching children in the school and we meet his old girlfriend who is deaf but speaks. From this point the two of them become detectives and there is a farcical chase through the school when the baddies arrive. One is left thinking at so many points why didn't they call for help from the police. I'm told the actor, Anthony Natale, is hearing impaired. Catya writes: Anthony Natale is deaf. Vanessa Vaughan is in this film, too. Emma Samms (of Dynasty fame) wrote the story. She's been involved with John Maucere, a deaf ASL user (who's one of the founders of Deaf Entertainment web site ) for two years. As the result, she's keenly interested in deaf issues, and she's currently shopping her latest deaf-related film about a deaf assassin...!!)
